Play-Informed Therapy

Children may not be able to process their own emotions or articulate problems to parents or other adults. “Play is your child’s most natural form of expression”— Virginia Axline. Therefore, Play Therapy allows them to communicate through play, exploration, and expression, to be able to connect with their innermost feelings and express them in a safe way.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning" — Fred Rogers. Through play, we allow children to learn, and we are also able to learn from them how they perceive their own world.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a treatment designed to treat Borderline Personality Disorders and other presentations of emotional regulation issues.

DBT is a behavior therapy which core principles allow for improved cognitive and emotional functioning through mindfulness, cognitive reframing, and structured skills and strategies to manage ongoing and persistent psychological distress. Developing appropriate DBT skills can help offset the impact of significant issues including reactiveness, communication barriers, impaired relationships, and diminished sense of self, and can improve our reactiveness, communication skills, emotional regulation, and self-perspective.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic model which views the mind as a whole system, composed of various inner-parts (like inner critics, protectors, or wounded children) which is then led by a core "Self." This core self is often the person you present to others, but can be a mask to help shield your other, more vulnerable parts. The goal of IFS is self acceptance through compassionate understanding, embracing all inner parts as necessary to your whole system, to heal past trauma and achieve inner harmony while improving your sense-of-self.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (Trauma-Focused CBT) is an evidence-based therapy aimed at understanding and managing symptoms of trauma for children, adolescents, and families (as well as adults dealing with unprocessed childhood trauma), helping them process upsetting memories, change distorted beliefs, and learn coping skills to manage stress and trauma symptoms like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or complex PTSD (CPTSD), depression, and anxiety, often involving parents in treatment (for children and families) to build safety and confidence.

TFCBT combines cognitive-behavioral techniques (like relaxation, exposure) with family therapy principles, trauma-informed skills, and structure problem solving, focusing on skills training, cognitive processing, and gradual exposure to trauma-related thoughts and situations, and can involve creating a trauma narrative to process traumatic events, thoughts, and feelings, and creating coping skills to manage related psychological distress

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a technique which integrates present-moment, non-judgmental awareness into therapy, helping clients understand thoughts, feelings, and sensations without reacting automatically, reducing stress, improving emotional regulation, and fostering self-compassion.

This approach, often using techniques like meditation and breathing exercises, is effective for anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma, promoting greater self-awareness and preventing escalation of issues by enabling earlier intervention, self-care, and being present in the moment.

Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

AEDP is a transformative, emotionally-focused, attachment-based therapy that helps people heal by deeply experiencing and processing difficult emotions in a safe, trusting, therapeutic environment. AEDP emphasizing deep emotional processing, resilience, and positive neuroplasticity in a safe, attuned client-counselor relationship where the therapist guides the client to process overwhelming emotions in the moment, move through defenses, and access core feelings, transforming suffering and surviving into experiencing something new.

By processing these deep-routed emotions in a therapeutic setting, clients can essentially undo negative feelings like aloneness, failure, and emptiness by deeply experiencing and processing difficult emotions in a safe way, and building new patterns of connection and vitality, focusing on inherent resilience, celebrating small moments of positive change, and accessing inner resources for lasting emotional transformation, especially for CPTSD, attachment issues, and emotional distress.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy is a multimodal psychotherapy approach for all ages! It uses various creative arts—like visual arts, music and dance, drama, writing, tangible activities, and more —to facilitate emotional growth, self-discovery, and healing, especially for those who struggle to articulate feelings verbally.

Expressive Arts Therapy focuses on the process of creative expression, not artistic skill, integrating different art forms to access deeper emotions, promote personal growth, and help individuals overcome internal struggles, trauma, and mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, and can hep with self-expression, communication, and understanding for those who are neurodivergent and struggle with self-reflection or traditional forms of communication.
